Deshaun Watson is out for the season. It is awful news for him, and the NFL in general. Forget about the protests and the controversy, the NFL is also struggling with a quality of play issue. As much as it pains me to say, Watson was the rare bright spot for a league that can't seem to do much right anymore. He had all but sewn up Rookie of the Year and there was even some MVP talk.
Can the league recover? We will see. Can the Texans recover? Let's take a look.
The Texans have been good to me this season on the betting markets. They have been undervalued most of the season. They did lose last week but they covered a very inflated point spread and in my world that is all that really matter. They opened this week as 12.5 point favorites over the awful Colts. 12.5 points is a lot to give in the NFL and despite this our projections still said that the Texans were being undervalued.
Then the news broke yesterday that Watson was out for the year. How much would it affect the point spread? The line dropped to Texans -6.5, a full 6 point drop. High praise for Watson as the elite quarterbacks are usually worth between 7 and 7.5 points.
