Gamecocks at Ole Miss: Preview, Projection and Prediction

The Gamecocks go on the road to open their SEC season against the Ole Miss Rebels tonight at 6pm. This will officially be the last game of 2017 for the Gamecocks, a magical year in Gamecock basketball history. The Gamecocks hope to capture some of that magic from last March on Sunday evening.

Power Rankings

The Gamecocks come in at #60 while Ole Miss sits #82 in the KenPom rankings.

The Gamecocks come into tonight's game at a very respectable #39 RPI ranking. This is good for just 8th best in the SEC, a real testament to the improvement in the SEC. Ole Miss is dead last in the SEC with 172nd best RPI in the country. This number will improve as the season goes along but the Gamecocks won't see any type of immediate boost to their RPI with a win and a loss would have an immediate negative impact.

The Gamecocks are projected as four points better than Ole Miss on a neutral court. The game at Ole Miss makes this game a toss up.

The simulation has Ole Miss winning 71-70

The Gamecocks are road underdogs getting 2.5 points and the over/under sits at 147.5

This game should come down to the wire. Take the Gamecocks with the 2.5 points and look for the game to go under the 147.5 total.

Comrade Leaves Littlejohn in Shame

Last night the Clemson basketball team won over South Carolina 64-48. The Comrade made his way to Clemson for the first time in 17 years. His team did not do well for him. Here are some shots from the game.

First..The Comrade had his water bottle ready to fire if needed.

After the game was over Rob wanted a pic of the scoreboard. The Comrade tried to stand in the way.

Luckily Rich Long did manage get to the pic Rob wanted.

The Comrade ended up leaving Littlejohn in shame.

We have seen The Comrade humbled before.. Dennis Wilson of D&C Trucking helped us with this Humbling. Congrats to The Comrade on being such a good sport.

Dennis vs Chicken!

Dennis Wilson of D&C Trucking has been a long time supporter of The Rob and Comrade show. Dennis is a great guy! He wants to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

Dennis also had a run in with a chicken..and the video is a Christmas gift just for you!

He looked like Rocky right? Thanks for being such a good sport Dennis!

One Expert Has the Clemson Hoops Team Ranked.

It has been a long time since Clemson basketball has entered the top 25 rankings. Tim Bourret from Clemson posted this earlier today.

7 years has been a drought! One hoops expert has the Tigers ending that streak. CBS commentator Seth Davis has the Tigers breaking that spell.

Could the Tigers be ranked for tomorrow night when they meet the gamecocks? Check out the latest podcast to get the rundown on the game from Rob and The Comrade.

Is the Comrade the Sire of Brock Lesnar?

We all know the Comrade is still upset after losing to Rocky on his homeland. In the latest Rocky sequel the son of Drago may actually be Brock Lesnar. Slyvester Stallone had an interesting instagram post which may put the WWE Universal Champ on the big screen.

I am not sure that Lesnar can do the job on the big screen. I also think he looks nothing like the Comrade. Creed 2 is set to hit theaters in Novemeber 2018.

Gamecocks vs Coastal Carolina: Preview, Projections and Prediction

The Gamecocks come into the game ranked #82, they were #145 before their last game against Wyoming. Coastal Carolina has an RPI of 218 which means a win today for the Gamecocks isn't going to do much for their RPI while a loss will be devastating.

Power Ranking

The Gamecocks sit at #49 while Coastal Carolina is #195

According to the power rankings the Gamecocks should win by 21 points

Our simulation has it must closer with a 80-73 Gamecocks win

The point spread has the Gamecocks -15 with the over/under 144.5. Our power ranking projections tend to be more consistent than our simulations and we have a 6 point gap in the spread and our projections.

Take the Gamecocks -15 and the over of 144.5

Gamecocks vs Wyoming: Preview, Projections and Predictions

The Gamecocks are back at it Wednesday night as they host the Wyoming Cowboys.

The Gamecocks come into the game ranked #145 in the RPI while Wyoming is #31. It is very early in the season but a win tonight by the Gamecocks should give them a nice boost in their RPI number.

Power Ranking

The Gamecocks sit at #50 while Wyoming is #100.

According to the power rankings the Gamecocks should win tonight by 12 points.

Our simulation also hit that exact number with the Gamecocks winning tonight 82-70.

The point spread has the Gamecocks -9 with the over/under 144

Take the Gamecocks -9 and the over

Gamecocks vs Massachusetts: Preview, Projections, Predictions

The Gamecocks are back home for just the second time all season and desperately need a win. Our last preview post jinxed them. The projections had them winning but instead they were beaten soundly by a very good Temple team.

Massachusetts is the opponent this afternoon and they are not a very good tea. It could be just what this Gamecock team needs to get back on track. Of course a loss would be devastating. Let's look at the numbers:

The Gamecocks enter the game today 48th in the power rankings and 171 in the RPI, keep in mind the RPI is a little misleading this early in the season.

UMASS enters the game today as 166th in the power rankings and 228 in the RPI.

It's not pretty. The Gamecocks won't gain much from a win today but a loss could look really bad.

The power rankings suggest the Gamecocks should win this game today by 18. The simulation below has it a bit closer. I tend to go with the power ranking numbers though and with a 13 point spread the Gamecocks should be a good pick to not only win the game but cover.

This May Make You Feel Better as a Gamecock

My boss at work sent this to me in an email. It makes a lot of sense!

This might make USC fans feel better about the loss…. You didn’t lose to some cow poke team from Pickens County… you lost to the new leader in College Football….

One ESPN college football analyst thinks that Clemson is overtaking Alabama as the sport's dynasty team.

ESPN College Game Day host Rece Davis and college football host Kirk Herbstreit met with the media in the press box at Bank of America Stadium Friday to preview Saturday's ACC Championship between Clemson and Miami.

Davis said, “you could make the argument that Clemson is taking over the sport as the premier dynasty,” Davis told a small group of media members. “Alabama has been longer, but if they (Clemson) can win they will win their third straight ACC Championship, go to the playoff for the third straight year and have the chance to go to back-to-back-to-back national championships for the third straight year.”

Herbstreit reiterated what his colleague said, but added that despite what national college football fans might think, Clemson’s run is nothing new as the Tigers have been ascending the college football landscape since 2012.  “I've had a front-row seat to watch this and the behind the scenes with Dabo and this team and watching them go from kind of the outside to being now in that upper tier,” Herbstreit said. “I think they have to be right there, not just the last two years. Really, this goes back to them beating LSU in a bowl game. Just go back and look at the names of the schools that they've beaten and the conferences in which they play in. How can you not put Clemson among the elite?  Whether they win or lose this game, they're already at that top tier in the country.”

Just remember who the state belongs to!

Gamecocks vs Temple: Projections and Predictions

The Gamecocks are back in New York City to play basketball. This time they will face Temple. This will be the Gamecocks' highest rated opponent so far this season but all the projections have the Gamecocks winning.

The KenPom Numbers show the Gamecocks as two points better than Temple on a neutral court. The Gamecocks are the 38th rated team in the KenPom Numbers while Temple comes in at #49

The point spread shows the Gamecocks as slight underdogs tonight with Temple now posted as a 1 point favorite. The Gamecocks actually opened as the favorite.

The simulation shows the Gamecocks as a 72-69 winner tonight.

Can the Clemson Killer Save the Bills?

The Buffalo Bills have not made the playoffs since 1999. It is the longest postseason drought in professional sports. The Bills are 5-4 and if the season ended today they would be in the playoffs. So why would the Bills bench Tyrod Taylor in favor of a rookie who was drafted in the 5th round?

The national media is pushing the narrative that the Bills are giving up on the season but those close to the Bills are saying the exact opposite.

Nathan Peterman has yet to start a game in the NFL but those inside the organization feel his style of play fits the Bills offense much better than Tyrod Taylor.

The local media ran a story today pointing to his game against Clemson last year as proof that Peterman might just be the guy to lead the Bills back to the playoffs and end this drought.

Here are the highlights from that article:

Yes, it was college football, and the NFL is a vastly different beast. But if nothing else, that performance showed what Peterman is capable of, and it showed that while he may not have the prototypical size or arm strength teams look for in a franchise quarterback, the kid has some moxie and he knows how to play the game within the confines of his skill set.
No one gave the Panthers a chance in this game, but they went down to Clemson on a mission to shock the college football world, and Peterman’s leadership was part of the mentality.
“For us, we didn’t care what anybody else thought,” he said. “We were always underdogs. No one ever thinks Pitt can win. We loved that, our team did, we thrived off that. We got a little more juice and energy for that role and then we just went in there and did our thing.”
“It was crazy at the end,” Peterman recalled. “We went down and scored, didn’t get the two-point conversion to tie so we’re down two. They get the ball and go downfield and all they have to do is get a first down, and our defense stopped them on both. We get the ball and drive to the game-winning field goal. To win like that in their place was pretty cool.”
That game caught the eye of Bills coach Sean McDermott, and certainly was part of the reason Buffalo drafted him.
“He led his football team to a win against the eventual national champions,” McDermott said. “At Clemson. That’s hard to do. The leadership part of the job, at quarterback … that’s important as we evaluate those intangibles.”
It’s impossible to know if Peterman can ever replicate what he accomplished that day at the NFL level, but the fact that he did it in that big moment should at least give fans some hope.

Florida State Preview

Clemson will wrap up ACC play with a visit from Florida State. The Seminoles come in to Death Valley after surviving at home with Syracuse.

Clemson won last years matchup in Tallahassee 37-34

Akers also has rushed for 100 yards or more in 3 of the last 5 games. James Blackman will be under center for FSU and is doing his best to fill in for an injured Deondre Francois. Blackman has thrown for 1285 yards on the season with 8 TD's and 7 picks. The FSU offense is averaging about 15 points a game in the last 3 road games including a 35-3 beatdown at Boston College. The Seminole rush defense is mediocre at 54th in the country.

Early Lines Favor the Gamecocks and Tigers

South Carolina and Clemson wrap up conference play this weekend at home.

The gamecocks SEC finale is with the Florida Gators. The opening line has the gamecocks as a 9
point favorite over the Gators. Clemson is all but assured a spot in the ACC Championship after a win over NC State. The tigers are a heavy favorite over Florida State with the opening line at 17.5.

Clemson and FSU will tangle at 3:30.

NC State Fans are Not Happy

When you go 0 for 2 against the Palmetto State it can make a fan base testy.

Wolfpack fans are not happy after tonight’s loss to Clemson.

The fans were true sports and even spit on the referees.

I am sure Jim Valvano would not be happy with the fanbase.

LSU vs Alabama: When Hurdling Goes Wrong

There seems to be a trend in football of guys trying to hurdle defenders. Maybe this trend will come to a crashing halt after everyone sees what happens to this LSU player who tried to hurdle an Alabama defender.

Florida is Now Clowning It's Own Football Team!

The South Carolina Gamecocks will welcome in Florida next weekend. This is not your grandpa's Florida Gators. Suspensions and losing a coach mid season has hampered the gators this season. A new low today though as they are getting hammered by SEC bottom feeder Mizzou. It is so bad that it appears the official UF  twitter feed is giving up.

Mizzou has had a tough season. They did get in on the fun.

You know you are not where you need to be as a program if this is happening on the twitter feed.

Catch our show tomorrow night at 10:30.
